Combining the elements of Detroit garage rock, Guns N Roses, COC and
Mustaine-like vocals, the VooDoo Lordz churn out 11 songs of
raw-edged rock that fuels aggressive thoughts. Fans of bands
like Pittsburgh's Silver Tongued Devil will appreciate the honest,
stripped down approach.
Vocalist Chris Van Wert has a vocal snarl along the lines of David
Mustaine, with that sinister smart-ass attitude. This style
fits well as do the background gang vocals yells. Listening to
this CD several times there is also a hint of Slayer (without the
speed) in the guitar riffs of Van Wert especially on "Disconnected"
and "Til Sunrise". Yet, there is no sign of a thrash metal
style throughout the disc.
With their raw approach, VooDoo Lordz are the prefect band for the
soundtrack of a night at the local bar swillin' beer and raising
hell.
