Melodic power metal from Britain, Power Quest (along with
countrymates Shadow Keep) are breaking down the walls for English
melodic / symphonic metal bands. Signed to Italy's Underground
Symphony label, Power Quest's songs are very upbeat, catchy and
along the lines of Freedom Call, Gamma Ray, Heavenly and Rhapsody.
The keyboards of Steve Williams flow like a quick moving stream
throughout the CD's faster paced tracks like "Glory Tonight", "Wings
Of Forever" and "Far Away". Williams has a keyboard sound that
actually compliments the guitars of
Andrea Martongelli and Adam Bickers rather than competes. The
galloping guitars on "Power Quest (Part 1)" soon give way to a
change of pace steady beat throughout the rest of the track showing
that the band is about more than sheer speed alone.
Vocalist Alessio Garavello has a wide vocal range and is easily able
to keep up with the speed of the instrumentation. Off
hand, his vocal style recalls nobody else in particular and he
sounds comfortable whether in a lower register or on higher scaled
songs.
Power Quest's "Wings Of Forever" offers enough unique song structure
and creativity to avoid the tag of being considered clones of the
previously mentioned bands. The bands British roots still show
in throughout the disc especially so on the track "Follow Your
Heart". An excellent debut from a band that shows much promise
for having been together for less than two years.
