Magus Beast (formerly known as Aggressor) released
the 7 song CD "Say Your Prayers" under their former monicker. The CD is a
stripped heavy metal release that has much in common with Metal Blade bands like
Savage Grace circa 1985 which is in fact rather ironic as the band was formed in
1985.
Vocally, Ron Scauri reminds me of a blend of Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth from
Overkill and Eirikur Hauksson from the Norwegian power metal band Artch.
Scauri is confident in his vocal delivery and can deliver some very impressive
screams (check out the intro to "In Vain" and you will see what I mean.
Musically, the Magnus Beast reminds me of Metal Church, Overkill and Megadeth
blended together with bands like the previously mentioned Savage Grace.
While they do show influences from thrash bands, their music falls much more
into the power metal genre. "Magus Beast", "Death Before Dishonor" and
"Devil's Advocate" all possess an old school metal mentality that is sorely
lacking in many bands today that go strictly for melodic speed metal.
Magus Beast will be opening for Overkill at L'Amours in Brooklyn in July.
