This four-track advance promo release by Hammerheart bodes well for
the full-length release. Metal in the vein of late 70's
Halford era Judas Priest along with an early 80's dose of Iron
Maiden. Hammerheart is based out Slovakia and have been
together in one form or another since 1994. They have
previously released a CD entitled "When Dark Dreams Became Reality"
in 1997. That song appears on this 2002 demo and is the
standout track of the CD with his heroic, epic passion.
"Back From Serenity" and Describe My Fate" are prime examples of the
classic metal approach, however the music does not sound dated in
the least. Denis Beláčik (vocals, guitar) contributes a vocal
style that take influences from Halford and Dickinson however he is
not a dead-ringer for either vocalist. Denis' voice is strong
enough to hold his own with the complex guitar, drum and bass lines.
What I enjoyed best about this "teaser" release is that after
several listens, I definitely wanted to hear more. Hammerheart
has no symphonic metal passages which are to the point of inhibiting
many bands throughout Europe. Perhaps one of the larger metal
labels in the United States or Europe will take the opportunity to
actually sign a band this band from Slovakia and further open the
borders to other eastern European metal bands that are still hidden
behind the Iron Curtain.
