ELEKTRIK MISTRESS |
|
|
|
One of the most immediate Stoner Rock albums I have ever heard. Formed in 1999,
Elektrik Mistress draws influences from a plethora of bands including Rush,
Prong, Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age and Fu Manchu.
Kurt Kuthe’s vocals sound like a cross between COC’s and Armored Saint/Anthrax’s
lead singer John Bush. Kuthe also cuts some wicked Blue Cheer/Hendrix influenced
groove guitar licks throughout their self-titled debut CD. The raw feel of the
CD comes from it being recorded in analog on two 16-track machines. This honest,
stripped down approach oozes with a 70’s feel at times recalling one of the
original space rock bands Hawkwind. Paul Tetsull (bass) and Chris Henry (drums)
round out this 3-piece group with a pounding back end and intricate bass lines
to induce euphoric satisfaction.
Elektrik Mistress debut release was produced and mixed by Terry Brown (Rush).
Along with fellow stoner rockers Penance, Elektrik Mistress has spun one of the
best psychedelic webs in the past year. Keep the oszium close at hand when you
fire this one up in your CD player! |
