A definite sleeper disc we received from Lance King and
Nightmare records. Ascension Theory is a progressive metal
band that actually caught my attention on the first
listen. Creative mastermind for Ascension Theory is Tim
Becker formerly of Aztec Jade.
Guest vocalist Jodi St. John immediately impressed with her
smooth vocal style that sounds amazingly similar to Liz Vandall
(wife of Uli Jon Roth) of Sahara. She is featured on two
tracks on the disc and sounds absolutely enchanting on "Lovers (I'll Wait For You)".
The other lead guest vocalist is Leon Ozug who has a perfect
voice for this type of music. Similarities can be drawn to
Dream Theater's James LaBrie is a positive manner.
Becker's keyboard / orchestration is powerful and bombastic
without being overly pompous. Even if you are not a fan of
progressive music, Ascension Theory offers enough variety to
please the more open-minded metal fan in terms of quality of
compositions and musicianship.
