OPETH
Lamentations

Opeth continues to defy sceptics within the metal
genre with their ever evolving sound and style that puts other
“music by numbers” bands to shame. On Opeth’s DVD “Lamentations”,
the band leans heavily on their last 2 CD’s “Damnation” and
“Deliverance” along with several tracks from “Blackwater Park”. By
playing the entire “Damnation” disc early on, Opeth shows off their
brooding, slow-grooved mellower technical brilliance contrasting
with the more punishing tracks later on the DVD. The picture and
sound quality is crisp and clear throughout.
Much like fellow up and coming Swedes Evergrey, Opeth has an
ambience about themselves similar to experimental music pioneers of
the 1970’s such as Led Zeppelin, Rush, Yes, Jane, King Crimson and
Pink Floyd. While some of these experiments may leave some fans
cold (the clean vocals and mellow feel of “Damnation”) these
successful transitions will only prolong the Opeth’s longevity as
their music continues to have a fresh vibe to it.
Included on the DVD is an hour long documentary where all the
members of Opeth are interviewed during the recording of both the
“Damnation” and “Deliverance” CD’s.
