Niacin
Live In Tokyo
Eagle Vision

Named after the classic Hammond B3 organ, Niacin is Billy Sheehan (bass), John Novello (Organ), and Dennis Chambers (Drums). The band was formed initially when Sheehan and Novello recorded a track for a Guitar World sampler, but after joining forces with Chambers, went on to release several albums for Magna Carta.

Soon after the trio embarked on this challenging jazz fusion project, Sheehan has described it to us as musically challenging and stylistically, a “somewhat of a funkified version of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.” Furthermore, they are a band of skilled musicians with a tremendous amount of talent and energy.

As Niacin performs the ten live, instrumental cuts on this DVD, it is ever so clear the laborious feats this trio takes as they lay down their funky grooves. While there are no catchy lyrics to sign along with, or arena style light shows, this Tokyo, Japan
performance takes Sheehan’s musicianship beyond anything we’ve seen with Mr. Big, David Lee Roth, or even Steve Vai.

While their trademark track “Niacin” and “You Keep Me Hanging On” appear on both, kudos to the band for mixing things up and offering a significantly different song selection on their CD release ‘Live! Blood, Sweat, and Beers’ (Magna Carta) and this DVD.
