Usually, instrumental releases tend to leave me somewhat cold,
especially when you hear songs that are dying for a vocal track.
Fortunately, Project Steiger's "Defiance" does not suffer from any
such problems. Considering the heavyweight lineup of studio
musicians Ken Steiger recruited, it is no surprise. The guitar
instrumentation calls to mind early Racer X / Paul Gilbert.
The "Shrapnel" sound is always welcome!
With that said, I would love to hear Steiger record an album like
this with a top-notch vocalist (Jeff Scott Soto perhaps?).
Passionate shred without the cheese.
