ANDROMEDA
II = I

Andromeda's second release finds the
Swedish band with a new lead vocalist in David Fremberg and another
batch of technically proficient tracks. "II=I" is a
challenging disc to listen to as guitarist (and bassist for the CD)
Johan Reinholdz has composed 9 complex tracks of progressive
metal. Andromeda's Reinholdz avoids the pratfalls of being
immediately compared to Dream Theater by constructing songs that do
not have purely progressive leanings at all times.
Fremberg's vocals recall Zak Stevens formerly of Savatage throughout
the disc and most notably on "Mirage". "Two Is
One" starts off as a very subtle track that eventually turns
into a heavier Kansas song then finally into a fading space rock
track.
Although Andromeda appears to be Reinholdz's project, he is
certainly not afraid to share the spotlight. The keyboards
Martin Hedin are often in the forefront and have the cosmic rock
vibe of Star One. His intro on Morphing Into Nothing"
hits hard and segues nicely into a Reinholdz
solo.
"II=I" is a definite buy for fans of bands like the Flower
Kings, Arjen Luccassen and other progressive space rocker type
groups. There are more notes in one bar than on a whole
mallcore CD.
