The second release from Belgium's Everglow, "Turn Back Time" is
a stellar six song power metal release that once again
subscribes to the theory that bands looking for a label are
better off releasing 4 to 6 tracks at a time than trying to
record 12 songs with many mediocre ones included.
Leading off with "Loneliness", Alain DeBlock and Guy "Vortigern"
Van Campenhout on guitars create a massive wall of sound that
steps the tone for the powerful vocals of Cindy Baert.
"Forever" features some absolutely monstrous guitar shredding
that is complimented by Cindy's ability to mesh with such power.
The thick and chunky
"Turn Back Time" is possibly the heaviest hitting song
Everglow has recorded.
The band appears to have back away from some of the slight
gothic leanings that crept into their last release "A New Life".
The closest they come is on "Mystery" which is straight ahead
rocker with a keyboard track in the background. Ending the
album with "The Escape", the band really shows off their musical
chops with some serious soloing throughout the song.
Everglow is one of those bands that I am truly glad are
continuing in their quest for heavy metal domination.
Everglow once again stands out above the vast majority of
releases we receive for review each month. The band is
very unique in their brand of power metal and definitely deserve
a shot at a worldwide release. As I have mentioned before,
non-traditional metal countries such as Belgium and France
produce some amazing bands that tend to be free of bad musical
influences in the metal realm.
