Formed in 1999, Little Rock, AR based Of Infinity is lush
atmospheric metal band in the vein of Nightwish, The Gathering
and Lacuna Coil sans the growling male vocals. The band
draws on influences as diverse as Children Of Bodom, In Flames,
Iron Maiden, Opeth and Helloween.
Musically, the band calls to mind the Gathering and Rain Fell
Within. Alessandra Zinicola has that songbird quality in
her voice that recalls Anneke's angelic vocal leanings.
Nazareth Sando's guitar playing is subtle as need-be but still
possesses some solid soloing.
Obviously, comparisons will be drawn to Evanescence as well due
to being based out of Arkansas (although members come from New
Jersey, Utah and Texas as well), but Of Infinity lacks the
modern rock beats and pursues more of a traditional pure metal
sound. Personally, I believe Of Infinity has laid the
groundwork for a style that will potentially follow in the mold
of Opeth as they have the chops to develop even more intricate
compositions. "Shadow Of A Lie" demonstrates this ability
with its heavy, yet "quiet storm" approach. "It's Only
Forever" is the standout track which calls to mind mid 90's Iron
Maiden in terms of song structure yet sounds nothing like them.
The gorgeous piano compliments Alessandra's vocals for a
stunning, atmospheric feel that embeds in your mind after
several listens.
Of Infinity was wise to start with a disc containing only 3
strong tracks. Too many bands go for 12 song approach on
their initial release and land up releasing inferior filler.
"The Essence Of Infinity" is a great release and probably one of
the best demo discs we received in 2004.
