Another French metal release, this time, however, it is not a power
metal band. Lyzanxia is a hybrid black / extreme metal band
that owes a nod or two towards Gothenburg (the band utilized Swedish
producer Fredrik Nordström). The pace is relentless and
punishing through the first five tracks before taking a breath on
"Dusk", a more straight-ahead, plodding metal song. The Potvin
brothers share the vocal and guitar duties for Lyzanxia and are
available to transcend the genres of black and thrash metal
seamlessly. The guitar work is awesome throughout and the
production of Nordstrom was well worth the expense. While the
band may tire of the In Flames comparisons, the vibe on this disc is
somewhat positive throughout the metal underground and bodes well
for future releases by the band.
Comparing the new Lyzanxia disc to In Flames latest release
"Soundtrack To Your Escape", the Frenchmen may have trumped the
Gothenburg legends in terms of production.
